The Tamil Nadu government has issued pattas to about 1.4 lakh beneficiaries during the past year, on the recommendations of the committee constituted for regularising residential encroachments and for issuing free house site pattas in Chennai city and its neighbouring areas, Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin said on Monday.

Speaking at a function in Chennai, where he launched the distribution of pattas to over 1,600 beneficiaries, Mr. Udhayanidhi Stalin said the Chief Minister has instructed that pattas be issued not only to people in Chennai but also to those living on poromboke lands in other districts too. “Since the formation of the government, we have issued about 19 lakh pattas across Tamil Nadu to this day,” he said.

Stating that a committee was constituted on the directions of the Chief Minister with Revenue Minister as its chairperson, Mr. Udhayanidhi said pattas were being issued based on its recommendations. He further said one of the major challenges faced by people was to obtain pattas for the land they were living in, besides underlining the challenges encountered by the public in the absence of pattas for the lands.

Ministers K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran, S. Muthusamy and Ma. Subramanian; Chennai Mayor R. Priya; legislators K. Ganapathy, Joseph Samuel, N. Ezhilan, R. Murthy, A.M.V. Prabhakara Raja, and senior officials participated.
