A ten year old boy was killed in a leopard attack in Nagamale forests near Malai Mahadeshwara Hills in Chamarajanagar district early on Sunday (May 10, 2026).
The tragedy took place when the boy identified as Harshith, a native of Bengaluru, was proceeding to Nagamale with his family on Sunday (May 10, 2026) morning.
The family, which was on a visit to M.M. Hills Temple, was proceeding to Nagamale when the leopard is believed to have suddenly attacked the boy and dragged him away.
The boy’s body was found about half an hour later, with his neck and other parts soaked in blood, according to locals.
The Forest Department watchers reached the spot after receiving information about the incident and informed the senior officials.
The locals have alleged negligence by the Forest Department in the death of the boy, which comes after the killing of a youth, who was part of a group of devotees from Mandya on a padayatra to M.M. Hills temple in January this year.
The continuing leopard attacks in the region have caused fear and anxiety among the devotees and public.
