19 government school students hospitalised after taking excessive dose of iron tablets

16 students discharged among 19 students hospitalised after consuming an excessive dose of anti-anaemia tablets without supervision. The stufdents are from a zilla parishad primary school in Bhamdeli village, located in the buffer zone of Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve, Chandrapur Official said on Friday (February 13, 2026). The students were admitted on Wednesday (February 11, 2026) after consuming vitamin tablets.

“The three students were kept under observation at the district hospital after complain of nausea,” said Chandrapur CEO Pulkit Singh.

Investigation is initiated on the matter as the CEO has asked the school to submit the detail report on the incident. “We are probing it from all the angles, whether this was food-poisoning, issues with midday meal, and also the negligence of supervision at the end of school staff,” said Mr. Singh to The Hindu.

He claimed that incident occurred due to overdose of iron tablets. Chandrapur GMCH, doctors confirmed that the condition of all the students admitted is now stable and out of danger.

Chandrapur authorities also said that vitamin tablets that students consumed will be tested and necessary action will be taken.

The students admitted were aged between from 8 to 10 years. In zilla parishad school, the vitamin supplements are distributed weekly. The students allegedly missed the tablet for several weeks.
