As many as 3,60,844 seats are currently available for Plus One higher secondary admissions, General Education Principal Secretary Sharmila Mary Joseph has said. At a press conference for announcement of SSLC results on Friday, Ms. Joseph said 33,000 vocational higher secondary seats too were available, as also over 30,000 seats in polytechnic and ITI.
Plus One admissions would likely begin online on May 25. If the requirement for seats was more, the formula adopted in previous years would be used to tide over the shortage with the approval of the competent authority. The department had initiated the process in this regard, Ms. Joseph said.
Director of General Education N.S.K Umesh said depending on the number of applications, need for marginal seat increase and temporary batches would be assessed and seats sanctioned. No problem would arise in admissions, he said.
Usually, marginal seat increase up to 30% is allowed in government and aided schools at the start of the admission process to increase the availability of Plus One seats. Temporary batches, particularly in the Malabar region, were also allowed to continue for inclusion in the Plus One first allotment till last year.
