Manchester United extended a staggering 41-year Old Trafford record after beating Nottingham Forest, staying unbeaten at home when leading at half-time since 1984.

Globally revered as the ‘Theatre of Dreams’, Old Trafford is approaching its 116th anniversary.
And despite all the chaos, inconsistency and turbulence surrounding Manchester United in recent years, one remarkable streak still refuses to die — for more than four decades now, United have not lost a single home league game after leading at half-time.
Not once since 1984.
400 – Manchester United are now unbeaten in each of their last 400 home league games in which they have led at half-time (W365 D35), a run which began in August 1984. Ridiculous. pic.twitter.com/VxuZchCeHU— OptaJoe (@OptaJoe) May 17, 2026
The Red Devils extended that astonishing record again on Sunday with a dramatic 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest, with the victory officially pushing United’s unbeaten home league run when leading at the interval to 400 matches.
An Unprecedented 41-Year Streak
According to Opta, the record is staggering: 365 wins, 35 draws and zero defeats since the streak began in August 1984.
To find the last team that managed to overturn a half-time deficit and beat United at Old Trafford in the league, you have to rewind all the way to May 7, 1984 — when Ipswich Town stunned United 2-1 after falling behind to an early goal.
Since then, Old Trafford has hosted over 800 league matches. In nearly half of them, United entered the break with the lead. And every single time, they avoided defeat.
The streak has comfortably survived multiple eras of English football from the old First Division days to the birth of the Premier League in 1992 and beyond.
It survived the dominance of Alex Ferguson, the post-Ferguson collapse, endless managerial changes and some deeply forgettable seasons.
