8th Pay Commission: The 8th Central Pay Commission (CPC) is set to visit Hyderabad, Telangana, on May 18 and 19, as part of its nationwide consultation process with employee unions, pensioners and government organisations. The visit is important because it will give stakeholders a chance to directly place their demands before the commission, which is reviewing salaries, pensions and allowances of central government employees.
What will happen during the Hyderabad meeting?
During the Hyderabad meetings, the commission is expected to interact with representatives of central government departments, staff associations and pensioner groups. These discussions are likely to focus on key issues such as salary hikes, pension revision, fitment factor and allowances, which remain major concerns for lakhs of government employees across the country.
To participate in the meeting, stakeholders were required to submit a memorandum through the official 8th Pay Commission website and seek appointments before the deadline. A memo ID generated after submission is being used for scheduling meetings with the commission. Venue details are expected to be shared separately.
What are employees demanding?
Employee unions have already started presenting their demands in earlier meetings held in Delhi. Several organisations are seeking a higher fitment factor, which determines salary revision, along with an increase in minimum basic pay, better pension benefits and changes in promotion structures. Some employee bodies have reportedly demanded that the minimum salary be raised significantly under the new pay structure.
The 8th Pay Commission, which was set up to review the pay structure of central government employees and pensioners, is currently in an active consultation phase.
After Hyderabad, more meetings are expected to take place in other regions as the commission gathers suggestions before preparing its final recommendations. The revised salary structure is expected to impact over one crore employees and pensioners across India.
