DOB Update in Aadhar Card: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has changed the rules for updating details in Aadhaar cards. The list of documents required for updating name, address, and date of birth has been revised. So, if you are planning to make any changes to your Aadhaar card, be aware of the new required documents.

What has changed with the new rules?

UIDAI aims to ensure that no citizen is deprived of Aadhaar-related services. For this reason, the list of documents required for identity, address, date of birth, and relationship verification has been made simpler and more practical. Under the new guidelines, Aadhaar updates or new enrollments can now be done with fewer documents.

Which documents are required to change your name in Aadhaar?

If you need to correct or change your name on your Aadhaar card, several documents are now accepted. A passport is considered the most reliable document as it contains your photo, name, date of birth, and address. In addition, a PAN card can be used as proof of identity. A Voter ID card is also valid for name updates, as it clearly displays your photo and name. Furthermore, your name can be changed based on your driving license, government-issued identity card, and marriage certificate.

What documents are accepted for changing the address in Aadhaar?

The UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) offers several options for updating your address. A passport, bank passbook, or bank statement will be accepted, provided they are up-to-date. Electricity, water, or gas bills are also acceptable, but ensure the bill is no more than three months old. For those living in rented accommodation, a rent agreement along with police verification or a notarized document is required. Additionally, a new Voter ID card, ration card, and house tax or property tax receipt are also valid as proof of address.

What documents are required to update the date of birth (DOB) in Aadhaar?

The birth certificate is the most important document for correcting the date of birth. Besides this, a passport and 10th or 12th-grade mark sheets are also acceptable. A physical PAN card and other government-issued identity cards that clearly state the date of birth can also be used.

How to change DOB in Aadhaar?

Currently, you cannot change your date of birth in your Aadhaar card online. Here is the step-by-step process for changing your name in your Aadhaar card:

Step 1: Download the Aadhaar Enrolment and Update Form from the official website of UIDAI.

Step 2: Visit your nearby Aadhaar enrolment centre or Aadhaar Seva Kendra.

Step 3: Fill in the necessary details and provide this form to the executive.

Step 4: Submit the original Proof of Identity document to the executives. They will take a xerox of it and give it back to you.

Step 5: Now submit a fee of Rs 50 for updating your name on your Aadhaar.

You will receive an acknowledgment slip containing an updated URN (Update Request Number). You can use this URN to check the status of your UIDAI Aadhaar update.

Updating your Aadhaar details is now even easier

Under the new UIDAI rules, updating your name, address, date of birth, or family details has become simpler than ever. If you have a single document that contains your photo, name, and address, UIDAI will accept it as both proof of identity (PoI) and proof of address (PoA). This eliminates the need to submit separate documents.
