The death of a two-and-a-half-year-old child at Mamal hospital at Kattakada, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, allegedly following injections, has set off allegations of medical negligence yet again.

The deceased child was identified as Aysha Fatima, daughter of Siddique, a resident of Uriyakode.

The family alleged that the child, who had been brought to Mamal multispeciality hospital with breathlessness, was given injections at the hospital, following which the child lost consciousness.

Though the child was rushed in an ambulance to Neyyar Medicity hospital by a medical team, she died before reaching the hospital, around 1 a.m. on Monday

According to reports, the child had first sought treatment for allergy-like symptoms, such as rashes on eyelids and breathlessness earlier on February 18 at CHC Aryanad.

On Sunday, as the child seemed unwell, she was taken to the hospital at Kattakkada.

According to the family, the child was given oxygen, followed by injections, after which her condition worsened.

Though doctors clarified that the child was given life-saving emergency medications like epinephrine (usually administered for anaphylaxis or severe allergic reaction), the family alleged that medical negligence had led to the child’s death.

The Aryanad police have registered a case.
