Andhra Pradesh Transport Minister M. Ramprasad Reddy said the government had approved a new system under which the permanent registration of new vehicles would be completed within 24 hours.
In a statement, the minister said the decision was taken to eliminate delays in the vehicle registration process by the Transport Department. Admitting that there were unnecessary delays in the present system, he said thousands of vehicles across the State faced delays.

“Under the new system, after the dealer completes the temporary registration, transport department officials must examine and approve applications for vehicles that do not seek fancy numbers within 24 hours,” he said, and added that if officials failed to respond within the stipulated time, the registration would be treated as automatically approved after 24 hours.
Mr. Reddy said steps were being taken to ensure that approvals were granted online even on holidays to avoid any inconvenience to the public. The system would soon be implemented across the State, he added.
