A Class II student from a government primary school in Annamayya district secured second place in the national-level Spelling Bee competition held in Mumbai on April 22.
District Collector Nishant Kumar felicitated the student, B. Shailesh Goud (7), at the Collectorate here on Monday and later interacted with him to assess his spelling skills.
Shailesh, a student of Government Primary School at Veligallu in Peddamandyam mandal, had earlier secured first place at the district, zonal, and State-level competitions before qualifying for the national event.
The Collector said Shailesh’s achievement reflected the potential of students studying in rural government schools and credited the success to the boy’s efforts and guidance from his coach and class teacher B. Madhukar Reddy.
District Education Officer (DEO) K. Subrahmanyam and Education department officials also attended the programme.
