Assam floods damage railway tracks, several trains cancelled and rescheduled; check full list

Heavy rainfall in Assam has caused the railway tracks on lines one and two to sink near New Harangajao station, severely disrupting train operations on the Lumding-Badarpur Hill Section, one of the most critical rail corridors connecting India's northeastern states.

The Northeast Frontier Railway confirmed that all train services on the affected route are currently being operated through line three only, under strict surveillance and enhanced safety protocols. The workaround is keeping some movement possible but at reduced capacity and with significant scheduling changes.

With passenger safety as the primary consideration, the Northeast Frontier Railway has suspended all passenger train operations through the affected section between 7 pm and 5 am each night. During daylight hours, trains are being allowed to pass through under controlled conditions with continuous monitoring of the track's condition.

The combination of night suspension and daytime restrictions has made cancellations and rescheduling unavoidable across multiple services on the route.

Trains That Have Been Cancelled

Four express services have been cancelled as a direct result of the track damage. Train number 15617, the Guwahati-Dullavcherra Express, stands cancelled for July 25. Its return service, train number 15618 the Dullavcherra-Guwahati Express, is cancelled for July 26.

The Guwahati-Silchar Express, train number 15615, is cancelled on both July 25 and July 26. The Silchar-Guwahati Express, train number 15616, is cancelled on July 26 and July 27.

Passengers holding tickets on any of these four services should contact the railway for rebooking or refund options.

Several additional services are running but on altered schedules. Passengers travelling on these trains should check the revised departure times before heading to the station.

The Narangi-Agartala Express, train number 15650, will now depart at 10.30 pm on both July 25 and July 26. The Agartala-Narangi Express, train number 15649, has been rescheduled to 11 pm on the same two dates.

The Guwahati-Sairang Express, number 15609, will now run at 11.30 pm on July 25 and July 26. The return Sairang-Guwahati Express, number 15610, has been moved to 9.30 pm on the same dates.

The Agartala-Deoghar Express, number 15626, will depart at 11.30 pm on July 25. The Rangiya-Silchar Express, number 15611, is also rescheduled to 11.30 pm on July 25 and July 26. The Silchar-Rangiya Express, number 15612, will now depart at 5 am on July 26 and July 27 respectively.

The Agartala-Rani Kamlapati Special, train number 01666, running on July 26, has been rescheduled to 11.30 pm.

Repair Teams Deployed Around the Clock

The Northeast Frontier Railway said engineering teams, railway workers and heavy machinery have been mobilised on a war footing to restore the damaged track section as quickly as possible. Repairs are being carried out with safety as the governing constraint, meaning normal operations will resume only once engineers are satisfied that the track is fully serviceable.

No timeline has been given for complete restoration, which will depend on how quickly flood conditions allow repair work to proceed and whether further rainfall causes additional damage in the section.

Passengers travelling through the Lumding-Badarpur Hill Section over the next several days are advised to check train status and revised schedules directly with Northeast Frontier Railway before travel.
