The cultural programmes formed part of Modi’s interaction with the Indian community in the Netherlands during the second leg of his multi-nation diplomatic tour. Folk performances representing different Indian states underscored the diversity of India’s cultural identity abroad.

Addressing the Indian diaspora in The Hague, Modi spoke about India’s growing global influence, rapid technological advancement and economic transformation. He stressed the potential for deeper India-Netherlands cooperation in sectors such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, clean energy and resilient supply chains.

The Prime Minister also recalled May 16 as a landmark date in his political journey, referring to the BJP-led NDA’s 2014 Lok Sabha election victory and describing it as a turning point that brought stability and accelerated development in India.

During his speech, Modi said the world was passing through a “decade of crises", citing challenges including the Covid-19 pandemic, conflicts and energy insecurity. He argued that India had emerged stronger through digital innovation and economic resilience.

“The Hague is known as the city of peace and justice, but today it feels like a symbol of Indian friendship," Modi told the gathering, while praising the contribution of the Indian diaspora in strengthening India’s image globally.

Modi’s visit to the Netherlands is expected to focus on expanding ties in trade, advanced technology, renewable energy, water management and defence, alongside meetings with Dutch leadership.
