Tensions resurfaced between India and Bangladesh after Dhaka summoned India’s High Commissioner over concerns related to the security of Bangladeshi missions in India.
Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma was called to Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 23rd December. This happened amid worries over the safety of Bangladeshi diplomatic missions in cities such as New Delhi and Kolkata, according to reports.
Bangladesh’s Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam raised the issue. He urged Indian authorities to strengthen security arrangements for Bangladeshi missions across India, diplomatic sources said.
This was the second summons issued to Verma in the past 10 days. Since the formation of Bangladesh’s interim government, the Indian envoy has reportedly been summoned at least six times. These summons were related to various incidents.
Earlier, on 14th December, Verma was called in over an attack on Inquilab Moncho convener Sharif Osman Hadi. Bangladesh sought India’s cooperation to prevent the attackers from fleeing across the border.
