Basil Joseph, the visionary behind 'Minnal Murali', has revealed his five favorite binge-worthy TV shows. From the suspenseful twist of 'Breaking Bad' to the intricate politics of 'Game of Thrones', his selections certainly span genres. He also highlights the artistic flair of 'Arcane' and the laugh-out-loud moments of 'The Office (US)'.

After a grueling week of work and tension, there is nothing quite like curling up on the couch with some snacks and losing yourself in a gripping TV series. But, here’s where it gets even trickier.

A plethora of platforms and an endless catalog of options. Now what? How about movie suggestions from filmmakers themselves? Actor-director-producer Basil Joseph, best known for his superhero movie ‘Minnal Murali’ has some suggestions. Perhaps, he could help you pick one engaging series that’s worth your time and is absolutely binge-worthy. Talking to The Hollywood Reporter earlier, Basil Joseph has listed his five favorite television shows.

From pop-culture juggernauts to heartfelt dramas, here is a list of his favorite shows.

Breaking Bad

Let’s cook! Looks like Walter White has left a lasting impression on Basil Joseph. ‘Breaking Bad’ is undoubtedly on the top of his list. The show created by Vince Gilligan, revolves around a terminally ill chemistry teacher and a former student making crystal meth for his family's future. Why is it on the top 1 of Basil Joseph’s list? “For the kind of drama, suspense and build-up they had.

And for the way that show was written to stand for all five seasons, not based on [existing literature] and not simply extended after two to three seasons,” he told the magazine.

Game of Thrones

Yes, Daenerys Targaryen, the Mother of Dragons, and her world undoubtedly caught Joseph’s attention. The ‘Minnal Murali’ director absolutely loves how the show keeps him glued to the screen. Created by David Benioff and DB Weiss, ‘Game of Thrones’ is everyone's favorite, and each may have their own reason as to why. It is based on [existing] literature, so they had a base, but they've done justice to that. It's very unique, and they're so unapologetic about their characters. You expect to see one for a long time, and suddenly, they'll kill them off. After a point, you don't know who'll be there until the end, and that uncertainty keeps you hooked,” Basil Joseph explained.

Arcane

The story of two sisters, pulled apart by trauma, technology, and politics, is Basil Joseph’s list of favorite shows for its style and narrative.

Created by Christian Linke and Alex Yee, the series is set amidst the discord of twin cities Piltover and Zaun, with two sisters fighting on rival sides of the war. "For the style and narrative, which is violent. And for the artistry, all the painting and drawing is kind of crazy, actually,” Basil Joseph said.

The Office (US)

Bad news for ‘Friends’ devotees! Basil Joseph’s go-to show is ‘The Office’. The mockumentary developed by Greg Daniels and led by Steve Carell, is one of his favorites.

"It's my go-to show when I'm feeling down or stressed. Even when you're falling asleep, you can just listen to it. I've watched it twice, and I love that you don't have to watch it in order,” the Malayalam filmmaker said.

Sacred Games

Well, obviously Basil Joseph loves the ‘Sacred Games’. Directed by Vikramaditya Motwane and Anurag Kashyap, the thriller set in Mumbai’s criminal underbelly is known for its rooted narrative. And of course, the Malayalam filmmaker adores it. Why is it on his list of favorite shows? "For its nativity and how truthful it was to the culture and the nuances of the characters. It was one of the pioneers of Indian series, a benchmark for others like Paatal Lok,” he said.
