BCCI hikes match fees

According to a BCCI source, a significant revision in the payment structure for women domestic Cricketers has come to light today, December 23. The BCCI has increased the fees for women cricketers from Rs 20,000 to Rs 50,000 per day in domestic Cricket.

Under the BCCI’s revised payment structure, players in the playing XI will now earn Rs 50,000 per match day, up from the previous Rs 20,000, reflecting a substantial increase. The updated system also benefits reserve players, who will receive Rs 25,000 per day, more than double the earlier Rs 10,000. This move ensures better financial security for the entire squad, recognising the contributions of all members and encouraging broader participation in domestic tournaments.

During Jay Shah’s tenure as BCCI secretary from 2019 to 2024, the board championed pay equality, expanded professional leagues for women cricketers, and invested in grassroots development while increasing public visibility. These efforts have empowered Indian women cricketers, inspiring millions of girls worldwide to take up the sport and raising the profile of women’s cricket both nationally and internationally.

His tenure at BCCI was marked by bold reforms that have elevated women's sports both on and off the field. One of the most groundbreaking moves during his tenure was pay equality between male and female cricketers, a decision which, in the long run, communicated an essential point about equality and respect for both genders.

This was followed by the launch of the professional Women’s Premier League (WPL), a move long awaited by Indian and international women cricketers alike.

The WPL’s international exposure now offers women cricketers a platform that provides both a wider audience and financial stability, while allowing them to compete and refine their skills alongside players from around the world.

India’s 2025 ICC WODI World Cup victory has given a major boost to women’s cricket, leading the BCCI to more than double match fees for domestic women cricketers.

India clinched their maiden Women’s World Cup title with a thrilling victory over South Africa in the final. Led by captain Harmanpreet Kaur, the team delivered a historic campaign, showcasing resilience and skill throughout the tournament. This triumph not only marked India’s first-ever global title in women’s cricket but also signalled a new era for the sport in the country, inspiring young players and boosting the profile of women’s cricket nationwide.
