Amaravati became a hub of high-profile tech diplomacy on 16th February, as Bill Gates visited Andhra Pradesh ahead of the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi.
Gates met Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and senior state officials to explore collaboration in health, agriculture, education and technology-driven governance. He was received at Gannavaram airport by IT Minister Nara Lokesh. Later, he was welcomed at the Secretariat by Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan.
During the visit, Gates toured the Real Time Governance System (RTGS) centre. There, officials showcased how data analytics is being used for disaster management and welfare delivery. He appreciated the state’s digital governance initiatives.
Discussions also focused on expanding the use of artificial intelligence in healthcare, agriculture and education. Naidu urged wider implementation of ongoing health programmes supported by the Gates Foundation. These include projects in Kuppam, Chittoor district. He also highlighted the state’s “Swarna Andhra 2047” vision. This covers reforms in med-tech, diagnostics, and the Sanjeevani digital health records programme.
Gates is among the global leaders attending the AI Impact Summit scheduled from 16th February to 20th February. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the India AI Impact Expo 2026 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.
