The BJP and the AIADMK on Tuesday formally started seat sharing discussions, and on working together in the forthcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections to be held next year.
Union Commerce and Industry Minister and BJP Tamil Nadu election in-charge Piyush Goyal met AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami in Chennai for the discussion. This was his first visit to the State after being appointed by the BJP as the party’s election in-charge for TN to oversee organisational activities for the Assembly elections.
Speaking to newspersons after meeting Palaniswami at a private hotel, Goyal said, “I am delighted to be in Chennai and meet my friend and brother Edappadi K Palaniswami, who has led the BJP, AIADMK and other NDA alliance partners. We had very good meetings, very good discussions about strengthening our political work together, about fighting the 2026 Assembly elections as a family, the NDA family, and under the leadership and guidance of PM Narendra Modi.”
Goyal said he was confident that NDA will have a sweeping victory in the 2026 elections.
“We have discussed today various plans for the coming few months. We are going to work to meet the people of Tamil Nadu, to meet the aspirations of the youth of Tamil Nadu, to meet the demands of growth, jobs and progress that Tamil Nadu has suffered under the corrupt regime of DMK,” he said.
It is important for the people of the State to get a good government, a government which is development focussed, a government that provides for a better future for the women, youth, farmers, fishermen, MSME, small industries, industrialists and traders , he said.
Palaniswami said the NDA alliance held discussions on facing the next year’s assembly election. We had first round of talks today. People are restless all over the state against DMK. “All our alliance parties will work unitedly to throw out the DMK government. Next year, our alliance will win for sure,” he added.
Both the leaders declined to comment on the seat allocation.
