West Bengal Minister Agnimitra Paul on Friday said that authorities would not allow any activity on public streets that causes inconvenience to citizens and stressed that the same rules would be enforced across all religions.
Speaking about preparations ahead of the monsoon season, the minister noted that rains generally begin around June 8, often leading to recurring problems such as waterlogging and a rise in dengue cases, according to a report in The Economic Times.
“We have little time but all steps will be taken. I have convened a meeting with my department officials for Tuesday. Measures are required to address these issues and will be implemented. With the onset of the monsoon, dengue cases are expected to rise. A meeting has been convened for Thursday to address this as well," the Minister for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs said.

Paul also announced plans for a mobile application aimed at tackling littering. Through the app, residents will be able to photograph unclean areas, geo-tag the location, and upload the information so civic authorities can take immediate action.
Referring to enforcement measures, she said the Chief Minister had already clarified that compliance with regulations was mandatory and unrelated to any particular faith.
The Minister reiterated that activities obstructing or troubling people on public roads and thoroughfares would not be allowed.
“This is not West Bangladesh," she asserted, adding that loud microphones cause significant distress to the elderly, students preparing for examinations, and animals.
“These regulations apply equally to everyone — Hindus, Muslims, Parsis, Buddhists, and all others," she said.
On the issue of illegal constructions, Paul said buildings being used commercially without proper approvals must be identified and flagged by authorities.
She warned that structures operating without a No Objection Certificate (NOC), fire safety clearance, or approved building plans remain highly vulnerable to accidents.
“Under these circumstances, it is our solemn duty to discharge our responsibilities diligently," she said.
