Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday exuded confidence that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would form the next government in Telangana, drawing parallels with the party’s recent resounding victory in West Bengal.

Beginning his address in Telugu by extending greetings to the people, the Prime Minister drew loud cheers from BJP workers and supporters gathered at the massive public meeting at Parade Grounds in Secunderabad.

Stating that the BJP had secured a ‘historic victory’ in West Bengal because the people there fulfilled their resolve to bring the party to power, the Prime Minister asserted that a similar mood was visible among people from remote parts of Telangana. “This time, Telangana will have a BJP government,” Mr. Modi said.

Terming both the ruling Congress and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) as family-led parties, he said the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government remained committed to Telangana’s development.

Aiming at the Congress, Mr. Modi alleged, “People in Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka are suffering after electing Congress, and people in Telangana too are facing similar disappointment.” He also accused the Congress of following a policy of ‘first seeking votes and then forgetting the people’.

Stating that the government had made the nation and Telangana ‘Naxal-free’, Mr. Modi said the BJP was moving ahead with the goal of building a ‘Viksit Telangana’. He also explained the development projects sanctioned to Telangana by the Centre.

The Prime Minister announced that the Centre had sanctioned the Zaheerabad Industrial Corridor and recalled that Telangana had received one of the seven PM MITRA textile parks approved across the country. “The Kakatiya Textile Park (KMTP) will create employment opportunities. BJP’s focus has always been on development and jobs,” he said.

Several party leaders, including State BJP president N. Ramchander Rao and Union Ministers G. Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay Kumar, also exuded confidence that the BJP would come to power in Telangana in the next elections.
