‘Blue Drum’ Horror Returns? Maharashtra Woman, Husband Kill Lover, Dump Body In Drain

A case has been filed under charges of murder and criminal conspiracy, and further investigation is underway.

In a case reminiscent of the Meerut ‘blue drum’ murder, Maharashtra Police have arrested a woman and her brother for allegedly killing her lover, stuffing the body into a drum and dumping it in a drain in the Mumbra area of Thane district.

The incident came to light after victim, identified as Arbaz Maqsood Ali Khan, a resident of Mumbra, went missing on April 3 after telling his family he was travelling to Dadar for work. When he did not return, his father filed a missing person complaint at the Mumbra Police station.

During the investigation, police examined Khan’s call records and location details, which showed that his last known location was in Vasai. Police also traced the phone location of Khan’s girlfriend, Mehjabeen Sheikh, to the same area.

Based on suspicion, police detained Mehjabeen for questioning. “Initially, Mehjabeen refused to give any details, but upon rigorous questioning, she confessed to killing Khan with the help of her husband, brother and his friend," said Priya Dhankne, Additional Commissioner of Police (ACP).

According to police, the accused had allegedly planned to extort money from Khan. When they failed to get any money from him, they tied his hands, assaulted him with a plastic pipe and killed him. His body was then stuffed into a green drum and dumped in a nearby drain, NDTV reported.

Police have arrested Mehjabeen and her brother, Tariq Sheikh, while her husband Hasan and another accomplice remain absconding. Officials said Tariq also has other criminal cases registered against him.

The case has drawn comparisons with the Meerut ‘blue drum’ murder reported earlier this year. In February 2025, Muskaan Rastogi and her lover Sahil allegedly killed her husband Saurabh Rajput after mixing sleeping pills into his food. Police said the duo later chopped the body into 15 pieces, sealed them inside a drum with wet cement and planned to dispose of it later.
