Burglars broke into a jewellery shop in Chandanagar, Ranga Reddy district, during the intervening night of Friday and Saturday (August 1, 2026) and decamped with around 7 tolas of gold ornaments and 4 kg of silver, police said.
The theft took place at Balaji Jewellery Shop, owned by Nookala Shiva Shankar, within the limits of the Chandanagar police station.
According to the police, the unidentified miscreants gained entry into the shop by removing an exhaust fan fitted to a rear door and enlarging the opening. They then cut a hole in the door separating the rear room from the showroom before making away with the ornaments.
Preliminary estimates put the stolen property at around 7 tolas of gold and 4 kg of silver. The exact value of the stolen ornaments is yet to be assessed.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Chintamaneni Srinivas, Assistant Commissioner of Police Ch. Y. Srinivas Kumar, along with officials from the Central Crime Station, Special Operations Team and Chandanagar police, visited the scene and inspected the premises.
A Clues Team and forensic experts collected evidence from the shop. Police are examining CCTV footage and other technical evidence, while investigating all possible angles. Special teams were formed to identify and apprehend the culprits. A case was registered and further investigation is underway.
