CBI Gives Clean Chit To Sanjeev Mukhiya In NEET-UG 2024 Paper Leak Case, Says No Evidence Found

The agency said the case was initially registered by the Bihar Police after the NEET-UG question paper theft was detected in 2024.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) said it found no evidence linking Sanjeev Kumar, alias Sanjeev Mukhiya, to the theft or distribution of the leaked NEET-UG 2024 question paper, effectively giving him a clean chit in the high-profile case.

The agency said the case was initially registered by the Bihar Police after the NEET-UG question paper theft was detected in 2024. At the time, Sanjeev Mukhiya was named as an accused because investigators suspected his involvement, given his alleged links to other paper leak cases.

However, after the probe was transferred to the CBI, the agency said it identified everyone directly involved in stealing the question paper, distributing it and benefiting from the leak.

“The CBI did not come across any evidence to establish the involvement of Sanjeev Kumar alias Sanjeev Mukhiya in the theft or distribution of the stolen NEET-UG question paper in 2024," the agency said in a statement.

The CBI filed multiple chargesheets against 45 accused before a Patna court but did not include Sanjeev Mukhiya in any of them.

According to the agency, Sanjeev Mukhiya had remained absconding during the initial phase of the investigation and was later arrested by the Bihar Police. Since he was named in the original FIR, the CBI took him into police custody for questioning after taking over the case.

Following a detailed investigation, the agency said no material emerged to establish his role in the NEET-UG 2024 paper leak. As a result, no chargesheet was filed against him, allowing him to secure bail in the CBI case.

The CBI clarified that Sanjeev Mukhiya remained in judicial custody despite getting bail because he is also an accused in other cases being investigated by the Bihar Police.

Reiterating that its investigation into the NEET-UG 2024 leak is complete, the agency said it had identified the entire conspiracy and ensured that all those involved had been brought within the ambit of the law.
