CBSE Class 10 and 12 Exams 2026: Exam-day readiness checklist students should focus on, not last-minute panic

With board exams approaching, the Central Board of Secondary Education has once again reminded students to follow certain basic rules to ensure a smooth and stress-free examination experience. While these guidelines may seem simple, following them carefully can help students avoid unnecessary anxiety on exam day.

One of the most important instructions is related to timing. Although the exams will begin at 10:30 am, students must reach their examination centres by 10:00 am. Late entry will not be allowed. Students are advised to leave home early and plan their route in advance, especially as traffic congestion or local events could cause unexpected delays. Reaching the centre ahead of time allows students to settle down, arrange their stationery, and focus mentally before the exam begins.

The board has also laid out clear dress code instructions. Regular students must wear their school uniform, while private candidates should opt for plain, light-coloured clothing. Private candidates are encouraged to keep their attire simple and comfortable. Items such as jewellery, heavy shoes, metallic accessories and electronic devices, including mobile phones and smartwatches, are strictly prohibited inside the examination venue. These rules are intended to ensure fairness and maintain discipline throughout the examination process.

Students are also urged to rely only on official information released by CBSE. According to the revised timetable, Class 10 examinations will conclude on 11 March 2026, while Class 12 examinations will continue until 10 April 2026. Keeping track of official dates helps students organise their preparation better and prevents confusion caused by rumours or unofficial updates.

Apart from rules and schedules, educators stress the importance of staying calm and organised. Carrying the admit card, necessary stationery, and maintaining a positive mindset can significantly reduce exam-day stress. A good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast are equally important for concentration and performance.

During the exam, students should use the reading time wisely, begin with questions they are confident about, and avoid panic if they encounter difficult sections. It is also recommended that students avoid discussing answers immediately after the exam, as this often increases anxiety before the next paper.

Board exams are not about perfection but about consistent preparation and clear thinking. By following the board’s guidelines and approaching the exams with confidence and discipline, students can focus on showcasing their hard work in the best possible way.
