Chinese New Year was celebrated with cultural performances, food and community activities in Hyderabad on Tuesday, drawing around 160 attendees and highlighting the cultural exchange between the Chinese community and local residents.
The event featured traditional elements linked to the Chinese zodiac, along with a series of community-led activities aimed at introducing local history and ideas through a shared cultural lens. Organisers said the celebrations were designed to be inclusive and accessible, with entry and materials offered largely at cost price. A book showcasing local history and perspectives was also released at the celebrations, said Yuking Yu, treasurer of Hyderabad Overseas Chinese Friendship Association.
Food formed a central part of the celebrations, with lunch served as a fusion menu that blended Chinese influences with local flavours. Cultural performances included a musical concert by a seven-member group which drew enthusiastic participation from the audience. A lucky lottery was also organised, with spot prizes distributed at the end of the day, adding to the festive atmosphere.
“These gatherings bring people together and make it easier for communities to connect beyond language and nationality,” said Mr. Yuking.
