The Centre and the Rajasthan government on Saturday reviewed the progress of skill development programmes in the State, focusing on jobs, apprenticeships and international employment opportunities for young people.

The meeting was led by Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Jayant Chaudhary and attended by Rajasthan’s Minister for Industry, Commerce, Youth Affairs, Sports and Skill Development, Col Rajyavardhan Rathore.

Officials met at Kaushal Bhawan to strengthen cooperation between the Centre and the State under major skill schemes.

Rajasthan has built one of the country’s largest Industrial Training Institute (ITI) networks, with 1,537 institutes — 182 government and 1,355 private.

Under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) 4.0, more than 3.14 lakh candidates have received training or orientation, and over 2.50 lakh have been certified.

Apprenticeship participation under the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) has crossed 1.04 lakh across 1,211 establishments.

About Rs 24.98 crore has been transferred to apprentices through Direct Benefit Transfer till 31 January 2026. Meanwhile, over 2.51 lakh artisans were assessed under the PM Vishwakarma scheme, and Jan Shikshan Sansthans in nine districts have enrolled nearly 12,000 learners with a strong certification record.

A major focus of the review was the PM Skilling and Employability Transformation through Upgraded ITIs (PM-SETU) programme. Rajasthan has identified ITI clusters in Bharatpur, Bhiwadi, Jaipur, Balotra, Kota, Bikaner, Jodhpur and Banswara. The hub-and-spoke model aims to match training courses with local industry demand.

At the national level, PM-SETU has an outlay of Rs 60,000 crore over five years. The programme plans to modernise 1,000 ITIs and five National Skill Training Institutes and train 20 lakh youth in new and emerging trades.

Jayant Chaudhary said Rajasthan’s scale and institutional capacity place it among the leading states in India’s skilling transformation.

He stressed that the next phase must focus on quality training, stronger industry partnerships and real employment outcomes. He added that modern trades such as electronics, EV servicing and digital technology should grow alongside traditional crafts supported under PM Vishwakarma.

Col Rajyavardhan Rathore said the State would speed up infrastructure work, land allocation and monitoring systems under PMKVY 4.0 and PM-SETU. He noted that with over three lakh youth trained and more than one lakh apprentices engaged, Rajasthan is steadily creating a workforce for sectors including automotive, electronics, petrochemicals, handicrafts and export industries.

Officials also discussed setting up a National Skill Training Institute in Bharatpur and upgrading existing institutes in Jaipur and Jodhpur. Two Skill India International Centres are planned in Jaipur and Bharatpur to create pathways for overseas employment.

Both governments agreed to fast-track approvals, improve monitoring and deepen industry participation so that training leads directly to jobs. The meeting concluded with a joint commitment to prepare a future-ready workforce and expand employment opportunities for the State’s youth.
