The Centre has approved a six-month extension in service for Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary M Sai Kumar, allowing him to continue in office from August 1, 2026, to February 28, 2027.

According to a Government Order, the extension was granted following a request from the Tamil Nadu government. The order said the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK)-led government had written to the Centre on July 3 seeking an extension for Kumar’s tenure.

Kumar’s extension comes after the change in government in the State, with the TVK administration deciding to retain the senior bureaucrat in the top administrative post.
