A Delhi court on Monday framed corruption charges against former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, his wife Rabri Devi and their son Tejashwi Yadav in the IRCTC land-for-jobs scam case, clearing the way for the trial to begin.

Special Judge Vishal Gogne, who pronounced the order, said the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has placed on record a “chain of evidence" to show that the accused were part of a criminal conspiracy involving undervalued land deals in exchange for jobs in the Railways.

According to the court, Lalu Prasad, during his tenure as Union Railway Minister, “abused his official position" and “influenced the tender process" related to the transfer of properties linked to IRCTC hotels. The judge read out the charges to Lalu Yadav, stating that he had conspired to ensure land parcels were purchased at prices far below market value and later transferred effective control of these lands to his wife Rabri Devi and son Tejashwi Yadav.

When asked by the court whether he accepted the charges, Lalu Yadav pleaded not guilty. “Do you plead guilty or not guilty?" the judge asked, to which Lalu replied that he did not accept the allegations.

The CBI has alleged that during 2004–2009, when Lalu was the Railway Minister, several individuals were given jobs in the Railways in exchange for plots of land at throwaway prices in Patna and nearby areas.
