Child rights panel talks to children assaulted by teacher in Kerala

Members of the Kerala State Commission for Protection of Child Rights conducted an inquiry into the alleged assault on students by a physical education teacher at Government Higher Secondary School, Kanjikode, in Palakkad, Kerala.

Commission members B. Mohankumar, F. Wilson and K.K. Shaju visited the school on Thursday (July 23, 2026) and interacted with the affected students as part of the inquiry.

They said the incident involving the punishment of Class VI students had caused mental and physical distress to them and that the teacher had failed in handling the matter.

The commission directed the teachers to ensure protection of children’s rights while providing quality education.

A police case has been registered in connection with the incident. Further action will be taken based on the investigation report, the commission members said.
