Denmark icon Christian Eriksen confirmed that he was doing well in his recovery after another shocking collapse during Denmark’s friendly against Ukraine.

Eriksen revealed that the situation was different from the first time when he collapsed against Finland during the Euro in 2021, and that his ICD did exactly what it was designed to do.

“I want to let everyone know that I am doing well and that I am home with my family," the Danish superstar said in a statement.

“As you can probably imagine, receiving a shock from my ICD has had a major impact on both me and my family, but I want to reassure everyone that this was a different situation from what happened in 2021," the Dane said.

The scenes were hauntingly similar to Eriksen’s collapse during Denmark’s European Championship match against Finland in 2021, when he suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch.

On Sunday, medical staff rushed onto the field the moment Eriksen went down, while players from both Denmark and Ukraine formed a protective circle around him to shield him from public view. The match was then abandoned, and Eriksen was helped from the pitch before being taken to hospital.

“I am feeling good, and my recovery has already started. In addition to being grateful for the support and assistance of all the players and the medical team on the field, I am also incredibly grateful to the doctors who have cared for me and my heart over the years," the 34-year-old former Tottenham star as he expressed his gratitude.

“Thanks to their expertise, my ICD did exactly what it was designed to do: protect me when I needed it. For now, my focus is on recovering, spending time with my family, going on vacation, and playing football with my children," the midfield maestro said.
