The Commonwealth Games 2026 will officially be declared open on July 23, 2026. The sporting spectacle will kick-start with a star-studded opening ceremony at Ovo Hydro Arena in Glasgow. A total of 74 countries will participate in this edition's games, making up 3000 athletes. India will also enter with a strong contingent, led by Olympic medalist Mirabai Chanu.

Unlike the previous iteration, where a total of 19 disciplines were part of the games, this time the games will feature only 10 core sports. This may significantly impact the medal tally of India. However, looking at the brighter side, it will bring forth a series of new names into the limelight.

The performers at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony include the following Scottish artists:

Tom Walker — Added to the lineup (announced mid-July 2026).
Nathan Evans and Saint PHNX — Performing anthemic tracks.
Callum Beattie
Nina Nesbitt — Performing a reimagined Scottish track.
Valtos (electronic folk/trad band) — Soundtracking the Parade of Nations, collaborating with musicians from across the Commonwealth.

The ceremony will also feature dance performances, a large volunteer cast (around 600–700 people), visuals, and storytelling focused on Glasgow and Scotland. It is an indoor event at the OVO Hydro.

While the opening ceremony will be held at night, the sporting action will begin earlier in the day. India's campaign will begin with Lawn Bowls.
