In another intensely fought seat, the Congress won the Nizamabad Municipal Corporation despite the BJP emerging as the single largest party.
Congress candidate Kuragayala Uma Rani was elected as the Mayor, while Salma Tahseen of AIMIM was elected as the Deputy Mayor. The BJP candidate Bantu Ramu secured 31 votes.
In Nalgonda, Burri Chaitanya Srinivas Reddy of Congress was elected as the first-ever Mayor of the Nalgonda Municipal Corporation. She was elected unanimously as no other candidates filed for the post. Ashraf Ali is the Deputy Mayor.
Congress swept the old Nalgonda disrict winning 16 of the 17 Municipalities and one corporation, with R&B Minister Komatireddy Venkata Reddy taking total charge of the district and ensuring the win in the Corporation.
The Kothagudem issue was settled amicably, with the CPI candidate Ganesh elected as Mayor and the Deputy Mayor’s post going to the Congress. Both parties decided to share the post for two and a half years each as both of them won 22 wards each.
In Mahabubnagar Corporation, Gumala Mamata of the Congress was elected as the Mayor and Marepally Surender Reddy as the Deputy Mayor.
