Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday launched a sharp political attack on the Congress, accusing the party of “betraying" its allies and surviving by depending on regional parties to remain politically relevant.

Addressing BJP workers and supporters during his visit to Bengaluru, PM Modi specifically targeted the Congress-DMK relationship in Tamil Nadu, alleging that the Congress abandoned the DMK when political circumstances changed.

PM Modi made the remarks while attending the 45th anniversary celebrations of the Art of Living Foundation and the inauguration of the newly constructed Dhyan Mandir at the organisation’s International Centre in Bengaluru.

Spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar was also present at the event.

Beginning his address on a spiritual note, PM Modi congratulated the Art of Living family and praised Bengaluru for blending technology and spirituality.

“Bengaluru is not only known worldwide for its software, but also for giving new heights to spirituality," he said.

He added that India’s diversity remained united through the spirit of living for others rather than oneself.

Shifting to politics during his address to BJP workers, PM Modi accused the Congress of repeatedly betraying both allies and voters.

Referring to Tamil Nadu politics, he said the Congress had depended on the DMK for decades but later abandoned the alliance for political convenience.

“Just look at the situation in Tamil Nadu right now. For twenty-five to thirty years, the Congress shared a close relationship with the DMK. Time and again, the alliance with the DMK pulled the Congress out of crises; indeed, the government it led for ten years before 2014 survived largely because of the DMK," PM Modi said.

He further alleged, “Yet, the very DMK that consistently worked for the betterment of the Congress was betrayed the moment the political winds shifted."

“Driven by its lust for power, the power-hungry Congress stabbed the DMK in the back at the very first opportunity," he said.

Continuing his attack, the Prime Minister described Congress as dependent on regional parties for survival.

“Now, Congress requires yet another party, one on whose back it can ride, to remain politically relevant," he said.

PM MODI TARGETS CONGRESS GOVERNANCE

PM Modi also criticised Congress governments across states, alleging that they were marked by instability, infighting and administrative failures.

Referring to Karnataka, he said the state government spent more time resolving internal disputes than addressing public concerns.

“For the past three years in Karnataka, instead of resolving people’s problems, most of the government’s time here has been spent resolving internal conflicts," PM Modi said, referring to the ongoing tussle between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar.

“They cannot decide how long the chief minister will remain. They cannot decide whether another person will get a chance or not. Everything has been kept hanging," he added.

The Prime Minister further claimed that Congress governments quickly faced anti-incumbency because the party lacked a governance agenda.

“They themselves are liars, and their guarantees are also fake. In the book of Congress’s power, the chapter on governance does not exist at all," he said.

BJP PROJECTS NDA AS SYMBOL OF STABILITY

Projecting the BJP-led NDA as a stable alternative, PM Modi said recent election results reflected growing support for the alliance across the country.

He referred to the NDA returning to power in Puducherry, the BJP’s gains in West Bengal, its continued strength in Assam and victories in Gujarat local body polls.

“These election results are important for the direction of Indian politics. They reflect the mood of India’s youth, women, farmers, poor and middle class," Modi said.

“India’s people are saying that they want speed, not scams; they want solutions. They want politics based on national policy."

The Prime Minister also highlighted the BJP’s growth in states where it previously had limited presence.

“Just 10 years ago, we had only three MLAs in Bengal. Today, the Bharatiya Janata Party is there with more than 200 legislators," he said, while also claiming the BJP was steadily expanding in Kerala.

PM CONGRATULATES VIJAY AFTER TAMIL NADU OATH CEREMONY

The remarks came on the same day Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam chief Vijay took oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu after securing support from Congress and other alliance partners.

PM Modi later congratulated Vijay in a post on X and assured cooperation between the Centre and the Tamil Nadu government.

“Congratulations to Thiru C Joseph Vijay on taking oath as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister. Best wishes for his tenure ahead. The Central Government will keep working with the Tamil Nadu Government to improve the lives of people," PM Modi wrote.
