Star footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, on Sunday, February 22, became the first footballer to score a whopping 500 goals after turning 30. He scored a brace for Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League 4-0 victory over Al-Hazem.

Ronaldo is edging closer to his ambitious 1,000-goal target. His latest brace lifted his career tally to 964, just 36 short of the historic mark. His 963rd strike was his 500th goal since turning 30 in 2015 as well, underlining his brilliant longevity.

Former English footballer Ronnie Rooke scored 493 goals after turning 30, according to reports, in the years following World War II. He continued playing until the age of 49 and finished his career with a brilliant 934 goals in 1,030 official games.

Brazil legend Romario came close as well, netting 450 goals after turning 30. He even returned from retirement to serve as player-president of America Football Club before hanging up his boots once again in 2024.

“It is hard to continue playing, but I am motivated. My passion is high and I want to continue. It does not matter where I play, whether in the Middle East or Europe. I always enjoy playing football and I want to keep going," Ronaldo had said in December.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, Ronaldo, who had missed two league games and an AFC Cup match earlier this month after going on strike over his club’s limited January transfer activity, according to reports, handed the home team an early advantage with a goal in the 13th minute.

France’s Kingsley Coman picked out Ronaldo inside a packed penalty box, where the latter controlled the ball with his right foot before guiding a left-footed shot into the far corner.

The strike, reviewed for offside, was awarded after a VAR check and marked Ronaldo’s 500th goal since turning 30.

Coman doubled the lead around the half-hour mark, finishing off a slick passing move after being teed up by João Félix. Ronaldo thought he had another just before halftime, but the effort was ruled out for offside.
