CSML tasked with DPR for model road project in Kochi

Cochin Smart Mission Limited (CSML) has been entrusted with preparing a detailed project report (DPR) for the beautification of the stretch between Goshree Junction and the Durbar Hall ground, as part of the larger plan to develop it as a model road.

The model road project was among the 21 priority initiatives identified by the new United Democratic Front (UDF) governing committee for its first 50 days in office. The project will be implemented in three phases.

“We found that a similar project was launched during the previous council with little progress or fund allocation. Hence, we decided to ask CSML to submit a DPR. A private builder has also agreed to beautify and maintain the stretch between Goshree Junction and High Court Junction as a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative at the Corporation’s request,” said Mayor V.K. Minimol.

The Corporation has also acquired an electric bus to operate a shuttle service between High Court Junction and the Corporation headquarters for citizens visiting the office. The initial plan to run a buggy service had to be dropped for want of requisite approval. “KSRTC has already sanctioned a stop in front of the Corporation office, while directions have been issued to the Regional Transport Office to approve a stop for private buses as well,” Ms. Minimol added.

She claimed that except for two, the UDF governing committee has implemented all 21 projects. “The modernisation of buds schools has to be reworked due to technical issues. The implementation of the green protocol for Fort Kochi beach was delayed since bids could not be invited to identify an agency, as the Assembly election model code of conduct came into force by then. Steps will be initiated to invite bids soon,” she said.

Construction of the dog shelter at Brahmapuram is progressing, while Indira Canteen, a budget eatery, has begun operations. An adalat has been convened, though some redressal measures remain pending owing to the code of conduct. The first Talk with Mayor programme has been held, with the second scheduled later this month.

“Facilities such as biometric punching, canteen, camera networks, and a single-window system have been introduced in the new Corporation headquarters as promised. Three of the remaining six wellness centres have started operations, while the other three will be inaugurated shortly. Thus, all 38 centres within Corporation limits will be completed, avoiding fund lapse,” said Ms. Minimol.

A physiotherapy centre in Fort Kochi has started, with another to open soon. The modern bio-toilet at Kaloor has been renovated, while two more will be set up in Fort Kochi using CSR funds. Both incinerators for biomedical waste treatment have been inaugurated at Brahmapuram, while 110 tonnes of biodegradable waste are being processed using the compressed biogas plant. The hostel for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students will be opened after council approval.

An intense mosquito eradication campaign was carried out by reviving unused fogging machines, while the mobile food testing lab has been revived and operationalised, Ms. Minimol said.
