Kula Vivaksha Vyatireka Porata Sangham (KVPS) has sought an independent and comprehensive inquiry into the alleged violation of Dalits’ human rights in Pedapeta village under Akiveedu of West Godavari district.

In a letter addressed to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), KVPS State general secretary Andra Malyadri expressed concern over the demolition of the locally worshipped Gonthenamma temple and the circumstances surrounding the incident. He alleged that the demolition was carried out during a late-night operation amid heavy police deployment, creating fear and unrest among Dalit families in the area.

Mr. Malyadri also alleged that police personnel were deployed around Dalit households and that pressure was being exerted on poor families regarding their residential rights. According to KVPS, Dalit families have been residing on government land in the village for nearly eight decades, and instead of regularising their habitation, attempts were allegedly being made to force them to vacate the land.

The KVPS said the developments raised serious concerns over the protection of constitutional rights, including the right to shelter, dignity, equality and freedom of worship, and demanded immediate intervention by the NHRC.

The organisation also sought protection and assurance of safety for the affected families, besides a fair and impartial inquiry into the role of officials and public representatives allegedly connected with the issue.
