The Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) seized stocks of suspected oxytocin injections allegedly intended for misuse in cattle during raids conducted at two fodder shops in Patancheru on Thursday (May 7). The illegal use of oxytocin in dairy animals is often linked to artificially increasing milk production and inducing milk let-down in cattle.

According to a press note, officials carried out the raids at Sri Renuka Cattle Feed, located at Pati X Road in Patancheru where 40 unlabelled transparent bottles of 200 ml each from proprietor R. Saikrishna Goud was seized. In another raid at Laxmi Krishna Cattle Feed in Chaitanya Nagar Colony, Patancheru, officials seized 120 unlabelled transparent bottles of 250 ml each from proprietor Mylaram Sai Ram.

“The shops were found to have illegally stocked injections purported to contain oxytocin for sale and misuse in dairy animals,” the DCA said.

Officials said samples were collected for analysis and further investigation would be conducted. Action would be initiated against those involved as per the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.
