The growing obsession with social media fame and reels has once again ended in tragedy. A 27-year-old woman lost her life while allegedly attempting to film an Instagram reel in Banda district, Uttar Pradesh, after a staged hanging scene turned fatal.

The incident occurred on the evening of February 2 in the Karuiya Purva area of Baberu.

What Happened

According to police and family members, the deceased, Mohini, wife of Jagdish, was passionate about creating reels for social media. On the day of the incident, she was reportedly filming a dramatic hanging scene inside her room using her mobile phone when the tragic accident occurred.

To shoot the video, Mohini tied a noose to a hook in the ceiling and stood on a stool, placing the rope around her neck. During the act, she either lost her balance or slipped. As her feet left the stool, the staged scene turned into a real hanging. She reportedly died within seconds.

4-Yr-Old Daughter Discovers The Tragic Scene

The horrifying incident came to light when Mohini’s four-year-old daughter entered the room. Seeing her mother hanging from the noose, the child began screaming uncontrollably.

Hearing the cries, neighbours and family rushed to the scene. Although she was immediately brought down, she had already passed away.

The incident has left the family and the neighbourhood in deep shock.

Police Investigation Underway

After being informed, Baberu Kotwali police reached the scene along with senior officials. The body was taken into custody and sent for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.

Superintendent of Police Palas Bansal said preliminary findings suggest the death was accidental.

“Initial investigation indicates that the incident occurred while the woman was filming a reel. The body has been sent for post-mortem, and the matter is being investigated from all angles," he said.

Rising Concern Over Social Media Risks

The incident has once again raised concerns over the dangerous lengths people are going to for social media content. Police officials and locals have urged people to exercise caution and avoid risky stunts while creating online videos.

Further investigation is underway. Police are awaiting the post-mortem report to confirm the circumstances surrounding the death.
