Breaking down Akshaye Khanna's Sher-E-Baloch look from ’FA9LA’; Designer reveals she ‘deliberately stayed away from traditional silks’

Ranveer Singh’s ‘Dhurandhar’ is roaring loud at the box office, breaking and making records with every passing day. At the same time, several elements from the movie, the minutest of details, the engaging songs, everything is going viral on the internet.

And speaking of viral, Akshaye Khanna has unlocked a new fanbase altogether with his work. Though everything about him is setting a trend, his song ‘FA9LA’ is reaching new heights of popularity. In addition to the beats and Akshaye Khanna’s viral hook steps, the Sher-E-Baloch look of the actor from this Bahraini hip-hop song by Flipperachi is turning heads. Talking about the same in a social media post, costume designer Smriti Chauhan broke down all the details that led to the creation of Rehman Dakait’s viral Sher-E-Baloch look from ’FA9LA’

Dhurandhar: The story behind Akshaye Khanna's look in ‘FA9LA’ song

The all-black look added more power to the massive aura of Akshaye’s character and Smriti in a video posted on her social media, shared, "We wanted to give him a full black look for the sequence because we really wanted him to be the centre of attention, the focal point of the sequence."

'Dhurandhar': The Film That Forced Indian Cinema To Change

Coming to the pagri (turban), which Akshaye was seen wearing later in the song, the team initially couldn’t decide on the colour for it. However, who could beat the contrast of black and white! Thus, a white pagri was added to bring the whole look together, as this combination “cuts through the sea of colours we see around him, making him stand out," Smriti shared.

The team had to ensure that the entire look gives out the essence of Balochistan; thus, they wanted to create a traditional attire, but in black.

Therefore, a slim-fit Chinese collar black kurta with shirt cuffs on the sleeves was finalised. It was paired with a bandhgala, adding more finesse. And the material the designer used was a silk wool blend because the idea was “to bring out the sturdiness and weight that the suti material provides. We deliberately stayed away from traditional silks," Smriti added. For the pants, the designer chose a semi-Balochi salwar made with just 6 metre fabric over a full-blown Balochi salwar that is made with at least 15-20 metre cloth.

This decision was made keeping in mind Akshaye’s frame.

The story of the pashmina scarf

Last but not least, the pashmina scarf, another tiny detail that held the look together. "Its feathery soft texture adds so much to his quiet swag when it moves with the wind. It just completes the whole look," Smriti mentioned. All this, mixed with Akshaye’s acting prowess and innate swag, created a viral look for Bollywood and cinema buffs.
