The Directorate of Census Operations of Delhi launched a 15-day awareness campaign for the first phase of Census 2027 on Thursday, deploying six mobile outreach vans across areas under the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

The campaign, running from May 7-21, aims to spread awareness about the ongoing phase one of Census 2027. According to a senior census official, the outreach drive will cover 180 identified locations across the city. “The locations for the drives were picked based on the footfall in the area for maximum visibility. We will be covering 12 locations each day until May 21 to reach as many people as possible,” she said.

The mobile vans, equipped with LED television screens and selfie points, are scheduled to visit areas near Uttam Nagar, Saket, Rajiv Chowk, Delhi University’s North Campus, Dwarka and Laxmi Nagar on Friday (May 8, 2026). Jingles, quizzes and interactive question-and-answer sessions will also be organised to engage residents and explain the census process, including the self-enumeration stage.

The self-enumeration stage for the first phase began on May 1 in MCD areas while door-to-door visits by enumerators for the house listing exercise are set to commence from May 16 across nearly 45,000 house listing blocks. The process is already under way in the New Delhi district.
