Te coalition government has taken up energy conservation as a top priority area over the last two years and initiated steps to realise its potential, says Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar.
Addressing the media at the TDP central office, near Mangalagiri, on Saturday, Mr. Ravi Kumar said that the Prime Minister had directed that there should be 10 million PM Surya Ghar connections across the country, and that the Andhra Pradesh government had set for itself a target of two million connections.
He noted that energy conservation was going to be extremely crucial in the coming days and the government was implementing various programmes with utmost dedication.
Mr. Ravi Kumar said the government was extensively promoting energy conservation measures, and tapping solar and wind energy like never before.
Steps were taken to install solar power systems in government offices and schools as well, he said, pointing out that even cooking with solar energy was being encouraged.
Non-conventional energy sources were prioritised to reduce pollution, he said, adding that the government was working out ways to further bring down the electricity charges. The slew of power sector reforms brought about by Andhra Pradesh had few comparisons, he added.
