Enough is enough, this must stop, says Karnataka Home Minister on constant speculation on leadership change

As Ministers and leaders of the ruling Congress have been speculating about the leadership change for several weeks, Home Minister G. Parameshwara on Friday urged his party colleagues to stop speculating about it and focus on administration.

Instead of speculations, he said, the ruling party’s energy should be focused on governance and development.

‘Will speak to high command’

“I hope that the party’s top brass is watching all of this. At the appropriate time, I will also speak to the high command in this regard. Enough is enough, this must stop. People are watching us... their expectations are different. We should focus on development,” Mr.Parameshwara added, speaking to reporters here.

Mr. Parameshwara said the high command knows what has to be done when, and they will act accordingly, noting that the party leadership would take an appropriate decision at an appropriate time.

The Home Minister said, “Our AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge has gone to the extent of saying that everyone should keep their mouths shut. He cannot be stricter... Despite this, leaders and legislators are commenting on it (the leadership issue), which is not appropriate. This must stop.”

1,000 days in office

Meanwhile, as the Congress government in Karnataka completed 1,000 days in office on Friday, Mr. Shivakumar was in Tumakuru attending jatra event of Sri Kada Siddeshwara Mutt. When asked about the comments made by Mr. Parammeshwar, he said, “I wish him all the best.”

Under the shadow of leadership tussle, the party is organising a grand event on February 14 at Haveri to mark 1,000 days in office. Digital title deeds will be distributed to over 1.1 lakh families in unrecognised habitations to mark the day and it is being flagged as the “sixth guarantee” of the government.

Two camps

Yathindra Siddaramaiah, MLC, has been repeatedly claiming that his father and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah would continue in the post for the full term, while supporters of Deputy Chief Minister Shivakumar have been repeatedly making statements that their leader will become the Chief Minister, while claiming the support of a large number of MLAs.
