Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has said that the team’s 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest on Sunday, February 22, at the City Ground was one of the biggest ‘robberies’ he had seen, adding that England winger Rio Ngumoha’s introduction in the 77th minute had more impact than Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo throughout the game.

Liverpool struggled to find rhythm for most of the game, looking flat in the first half and in long spells after the break, while Nottingham Forest appeared more assured in possession.

The match shifted late on, though, when Arne Slot brought off Salah and introduced Ngumoha in the 77th minute, giving the visitors a noticeable lift.

Argentina midfielder Alexis Mac Allister thought he had sealed the victory over Nottingham Forest in the 89th minute when Ola Aina’s clearance bounced off his elbow and into the net, but VAR ruled it out for handball.

Allister made no mistake later, though; he scored in the seventh minute of stoppage time to bag the win against Nottingham Forest for Liverpool.

Carragher was far from impressed by the latter’s performance, describing their victory over Nottingham Forest as a robbery.

“That is one of the biggest robberies I have seen in the Premier League this season, it really is. But I will say this, Rio Ngumoha came on in the 77th minute; he did more in 15 minutes than Gakpo and Salah did in the whole game," Carragher said.

“He (Ngumoha) changed the game this kid. He needs to be starting games now. He is that good," Carragher added.

In his 13-minute cameo, Ngumoha injected energy into Liverpool’s attack, creating an opportunity and completing two of his three attempted dribbles. In contrast, Salah and Gakpo managed just one chance between them, couldn’t register a shot on target and did not complete a single dribble across their 77 minutes on the field, as per FotMob.

Liverpool will next take on West Ham on Saturday, February 28, at Anfield.
