Five killed as car plunges into dam in Madhya Pradesh’s Rajgarh

Five people were killed in Madhya Pradesh’s Rajgarh district on Saturday (July 25, 2026) after a car they were travelling in skidded off the road and plunged into a small dam reservoir, police said.

According to the police, the incident took place around 12 p.m. near Bhilkhedi junction on the border of Pachore and Khujner police stations when the car lost control while approaching a culvert and fell into the reservoir. 

Pachore police station in-charge Shakuntala Bamniya told The Hindu that all five men hailed from neighbouring Shajapur district and were travelling to a famous temple in Khujner. 

Ms. Bamniya said that as per preliminary investigation, the car may have fallen off the road while trying to avoid an animal on the road or a vehicle coming in the opposite direction.

She said that a rescue operation was launched by local authorities, and all five victims were taken to a government hospital where they were declared dead. 

“The car also flipped before plunging into the 10-12 feet deep water. Postmortem tests were conducted on them after which the bodies were handed over to their families,” she said. 

The victims were identified as Kamal Kishor Tiwari, 57; Govind Tiwari, 55; Shankar Lal, 57; Arvind Singh Khati, 36; and Rohit Patel Khati, 32, who was driving the car.
