The flood situation in Assam showed marginal improvement on Saturday, with the number of affected people declining to 1.78 lakh, although the number of inundated districts rose to seven, according to an official bulletin.

The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said no deaths were reported during the past 24 hours, keeping the overall flood-related death toll at 82.

It also noted that the Dikhow river at Sivasagar and the Dhansiri (S) river at Numaligarh in Golaghat were flowing above the danger mark.

Floodwaters continued to affect seven districts, Golaghat, Sivasagar, Charaideo, Bajali, Dhemaji, Sonitpur and Jorhat, impacting 20 revenue circles and 349 villages.

The total affected population stood at 1,78,837. Charaideo remained the worst-affected district with 75,199 people impacted, followed by Sivasagar where 58,824 people were affected.

A day earlier, five districts were affected, and the flood-hit population was estimated at 1.92 lakh.

Across the state, 44 relief camps were housing nearly 15,000 displaced people, while 17 relief distribution centres were assisting 5,569 people.

According to the ASDMA bulletin, floodwaters remained over 15,060 hectares of cropland. The floods also washed away 1,543 animals and affected another 6,765.

Reports of damage to houses, roads, bridges, schools and cattle sheds were received from several areas of the state.

Kerala Reports Six Deaths, Rescue Ops Continue

Heavy monsoon rains continued to impact Kerala, where six people have lost their lives, and six others are still missing, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said.

The CMO said rescue and search efforts are ongoing with support from various agencies, elected representatives and residents.

The state has set up 65 relief camps accommodating 1,465 people. Officials said 17 houses were destroyed, while 127 sustained partial damage in the rain-related incidents.

While rainfall has subsided in some affected regions, rescue operations remain underway, the CMO said. Anakkampoyil in Kozhikode received 340 mm of rain over 35 hours, whereas Meppadi in Wayanad recorded 177 mm during the same period.

Over 8.34 Lakh Affected In Odisha

Odisha is facing one of the most severe flood situations of the current monsoon season, with officials reporting that more than 8.34 lakh people have been affected across 20 districts.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said around eight lakh people have been impacted by the floods and that many villages remain marooned despite water levels in several rivers beginning to recede. He said the administration was closely monitoring the situation and focusing on vulnerable districts in the Mahanadi delta region.

Flooding caused by the swollen Mahanadi and overflowing Salandi, Brahmani, Baitarani, Jalaka and Budhabalang rivers has inundated low-lying areas, damaged infrastructure and affected extensive agricultural land.

More than 1,300 houses have suffered damage in north Odisha. Bhadrak has emerged as the worst-hit district, followed by Jajpur, Balasore and Mayurbhanj.

Authorities have issued a high alert for 10 districts located downstream of the Mahanadi as excess water continues to be released from the Hirakud Dam through 22 gates.

Special Relief Commissioner Rajesh Prabhakar Patil said the districts on alert are Angul, Boudh, Sambalpur, Subarnapur, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Puri, Khurda, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapada. He added that special attention is being given to the Mahanadi delta districts due to their vulnerability.

Officials said the water level in the Hirakud reservoir was 625.47 feet against its full reservoir level of 630 feet. With inflows reaching about 4.15 lakh cusecs, the reservoir level is expected to increase further, while average outflow was recorded at 3,89,603 cusecs.

They also said discharge at the Mundali barrage near Cuttack has fallen to around 7 lakh cusecs from 8.88 lakh cusecs on Thursday night. However, authorities continue to monitor the flood situation closely.
