Perez stunned everyone with a all-out attack on referees, media and reignited talks around the infamous Barca-Negreira case after Real Madrid lost the La Liga title.

When Real Madrid announced an emergency press conference involving club president Florentino Perez on Tuesday afternoon, Spanish football instantly spiralled into speculation mode.
Would Perez announce a blockbuster managerial appointment? Was he preparing to resign? Or perhaps address the growing unrest following Barcelona’s title-clinching Clasico victory?
Nobody saw what came next.
Over a dramatic 90-minute press conference, the 79-year-old launched a fiery broadside against referees, the Spanish media and, unsurprisingly, bitter rivals Barcelona.

Fresh off Madrid’s painful defeat in El Clasico — a result that officially handed Barcelona their 29th La Liga title — Perez appeared determined to shift the narrative away from his club’s disappointing season.
Perez Refuses To Back Down
Despite mounting criticism surrounding Madrid’s campaign, Perez firmly rejected any suggestion that he could step down from his position.
Instead, the veteran president doubled down.
Perez openly invited challengers to contest fresh club elections, insisting he still had the support and vision to lead Los Blancos forward.
He even argued that Real Madrid’s trophy haul during his tenure would have been significantly greater had refereeing decisions been fairer.
“We could have won more titles," Perez implied while discussing what he believes has been a long-standing refereeing bias against Madrid.
And it’s not as though his resume lacks silverware.
Across two spells spanning more than two decades, Perez has overseen seven Champions League triumphs and seven La Liga titles.
Barcelona Dragged Into The Storm
Of course, it didn’t take long before the conversation turned toward the infamous “Negreira Case."
Florentino Perez brought up the Negreira investigation in his press conference on Tuesday.Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira was a referee in LALIGA from 1977 to 1992 and later became the vice president of the refereeing committee in Spain. It emerged in 2023 following an… pic.twitter.com/AVwiteQmII

Perez described Barcelona’s alleged payments to former refereeing official Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira as “the biggest scandal in football history."
“The referees from that era are still officiating in competitions such as LaLiga," Perez said.
“We are going to compile a comprehensive dossier to present to UEFA so that they can nip this in the bud."
He further revealed that Real Madrid are preparing a massive 500-page report regarding the case.
“The president of the CTA says it’s something we should forget about. We’re putting together a 500-page dossier that we’ll send out as soon as the season ends."
Barcelona have already responded sharply.
“After the press conference conducted by Real Madrid’s president Florentino Perez, our legal department is carefully studying his words and accusations," the club stated.
“In these moments, the club is analysing the situation and deciding which are the next steps to take."
