Fox & Mandal joint managing partner Kunal Vajani has demitted his office and is now set to start independent domestic and international litigation & ADR practice.

Vajani specialises in litigation and arbitration with his practice ranging across a wide spectrum of civil, criminal and company matters. He has also been appointed as an arbitrator in several institutional / ad-hoc domestic as well as international commercial arbitrations.

With over 20 years of experience, Vajani holds expertise in matters related to business / partnership, banking & finance, family, infrastructure, mining, natural resources, private equity & debt and real estate.

“My decision to pursue an independent counsel practice is driven by a desire to focus more deeply on advocacy and trial work, particularly civil, commercial and white collar trials. This transition will also allow me to expand my global professional engagement and dedicate greater bandwidth to ADR, including acting more frequently as an arbitrator and mediator in domestic, cross-border, and treaty disputes, whilst devoting myself to academic pursuits across jurisdictions alongside legal writing and mentorship,” said Vajani in a conversation with ETLegalWorld.

There is a growing trend which reflects a shift towards autonomy in legal practice. Many senior partners have exited big law firms to launch boutique practices, just last year Alipak Banerjee exited Nishith Desai Associates after 10+ years to launch independent disputes chambers and called it a "natural progression" for closer client ties.
