The Indian Air Force’s Surya Kiran Formation Aerobatic Team (SKAT) — with its brightly painted red and white trainer jets — captivated the audiences with a spectacular aerial display at Wings India 2026, reflecting India’s aerospace excellence and unwavering commitment to national capability.

For 30 years, the Indian Air Force’s Surya Kiran Formation Aerobatic Team (SKAT) has never failed to amaze the audience at home and abroad with its breathtaking aerial manoeuvres.

At Wings India, 2026 — held in Hyderabad to promote the Indian aviation industry and display India’s aerospace might — the team completed its 800th display.

“SKAT completes 800 displays with the grand finale at Wings India 2026 at Hyderabad! This journey has been nothing short of legendary. Thank you all for your love and support always," the team posted on its X-handle.

About SKAT

Raised in 1996, SKAT is also referred to as the ‘Ambassador of the Indian Air Force’. It is among the very few nine-aircraft aerobatic formations in the world.

Starting off with a four-aircraft formation, the team took to the skies with the indigenous HAL HJT-16 Kiran Mk-2 trainer. By 1998, it expanded to a nine-aircraft formation.

In May 2006, SKAT was given the status of a separate squadron.
