An Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Centre (IEDC) to strengthen medical research and support healthcare startup initiatives has been launched at the Government Medical College Hospital (MCH), Kozhikode.

It was inaugurated by K. Ranjini, Vice-Principal, and Professor of Ophthalmology, as part of the All India Oncoscope Oncology Summit, a national oncology conference held here recently.

Rojith K. Balakrishnan, Assistant Professor of Medicine and IEDC nodal officer, said the primary objective was to encourage students to develop innovative solutions to real-world healthcare challenges. “Medical colleges should evolve beyond centres of treatment and academics into hubs of research, innovation and startup development,” he said.

The authorities said that the initiative was part of the efforts to transform government medical colleges into innovation hubs and promote technology-driven healthcare solutions and medical entrepreneurship.
