GUWAHATI: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Shillong has been awarded the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) accreditation, globally regarded as the gold standard in management education.

This achievement has placed IIM Shillong among an elite group of business schools worldwide that have met AACSB’s rigorous standards of excellence in teaching, research, curriculum, learner success, and societal impact, an institute spokesperson said on Thursday (May 21, 2026).

Fewer than 6% business schools globally have received the AACSB accreditation, making it one of the most respected recognitions in management education. IIM Shillong is now among 30 AACSB-accredited institutions in India.

“This achievement reflects the collective effort and commitment of the entire IIM Shillong community towards earning global recognition. We remain committed to fulfilling our strategic vision and the AACSB commitments over the next six years while continuously strengthening the institute’s global reputation,” IIM Shillong’s Director in charge, Naliniprava Tripathy, said.

She said that the accreditation reflects the institute’s pursuit of academic excellence, sustainability-driven management education, research, innovation, and global engagement.

The AACSB peer-review process entailed evaluating the institute across strategic management, faculty quality, research, learner outcomes, industry engagement, and continuous improvement. The accreditation enhances the IIM Shillong’s opportunities for international collaborations, academic partnerships, student and faculty exchange, executive education, global research initiatives, and deeper engagement with industry and policymakers.

Established in 2007, IIM Shillong is one of India’s youngest management institutes. It is also at the highest elevation (almost 5,000 feet above mean sea level) among IIMs in the country, earning the sobriquet “Campus in the Clouds”. EOM
