Defense Minister Rajnath Singh held a bilateral meeting with the Minister of National Defence of the Hellenic Republic, Nikolaos-Georgios Dendias, in New Delhi on Monday.
According to news agency ANI, during the meeting, both sides agreed to further strengthen defense cooperation, including the deployment of a Greek International Liaison Officer at the Information Fusion Centre-Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR) in Gurugram. India and Greece have taken a significant step towards deepening their strategic defense relations.
In bilateral talks between Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi, the two countries signed a Joint Declaration of Intent. Based on this declaration, India and Greece will prepare a joint roadmap for the next five years.
Joint Declaration to Strengthen Defense Cooperation
According to the DD News website, both defense ministers stated that the strategic partnership between India and Greece is based on shared values such as peace, stability, freedom, and mutual respect. According to the Ministry of Defence, the objective of this Joint Declaration of Intent is to further strengthen defense industrial cooperation between the two countries, thereby expanding indigenous defense capabilities.
During the meeting, it was also decided that both countries would empower their respective defense industries by linking India's 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' (Self-Reliant India) initiative and Greece's 'Agenda-2030' defense reform plan. An agreement was reached to increase cooperation in the areas of technology, production, and innovation.
Discussions on Regional Peace and Military Cooperation
During the bilateral talks, the two leaders also discussed issues related to regional peace and security. Both sides acknowledged that defense cooperation and strategic relations between India and Greece are continuously strengthening. A bilateral military cooperation plan for the year 2026 was exchanged, which will outline joint activities between the armed forces of both countries. The two ancient maritime nations witnessed enhanced understanding in maritime affairs. Tribute to Martyrs and Visits to Industrial Establishments
Earlier, the Greek Defence Minister paid tribute to the martyrs at the National War Memorial. He also inspected the Tri-Services Guard of Honour at the Manekshaw Centre. During their visit, the Greek delegation also visited key defence and industrial establishments in Bengaluru and New Delhi. The delegation interacted with representatives from Defence PSUs, the defence industry, and start-ups to discuss possibilities for cooperation.
Reaffirmation of India-Greece Relations
According to INS, the Ministry of Defence stated that this visit reaffirms the long-standing strong and friendly relations between India and Greece.
Meanwhile, in a related development, Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth inaugurated the India Pavilion at the World Defence Show-2026 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Spread over approximately 400 square meters, the pavilion showcases India's indigenous defence capabilities, state-of-the-art platforms of Defence PSUs and industries, and the 'Make in India, Make for the World' initiative.
